The much anticipated return of TC to thesqueeze has finally arrived. So as the big guy is sittin at yankee stadium watching mariano blow another tie game in the 9th, I figured now would be as good a time as any to break in with my first blog on the new and improved squeeze. This way I won’t have to hear him complain how I haven’t done anything yet. And for the record, it is not that difficult to write a post, but i digress….
Since most of my specialty will be in gambling making money, I figured what better way to start than with the Belmont today. Now as great as it would be to see Borel “win” the triple crown on 2 different horses for the 1st time in history, I don’t think that is likely to happen. First, the favorite has not won at the Belmont since Afleet Alex in 2005. Second, the past 6 winners of the Belmont did not run in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Here is the breakdown of some of the horses and my picks:
6- Charitable Man (3to1)- my favorite to win the race. Has not lost at the Belmont yet, and has last years Belmont winning jockey Alan Garcia on board. He also was sired by the ’99 winner Lemon Drop Kid. He also will be fresh this year with this being only his third start in ’09, his last race almost a month ago.
7- Mine that Bird (2to1)- the gamblers favorite, but I feel just like in the Preakness, the gelding comes up just short. He is built for a longer race with his closing speed, with Calvin Borel on board. And he was sired by the ’04 Belmont winner Birdstone (as was Summerbird at 12to1). Have to put him in the mix
2- Dunkirk (4to1)- low odds and finished 11th in the derby. Not my cup of tea. But he is rested, and could finally live up to some of the hype in the small field.
4- Summer Bird(12 to 1)- from the same bloodline as Mine that Bird. I also love Desormeaux on board.
WIN: 6- Charitable Man PLACE: 7-Mine that Bird SHOW: 4-Summer Bird
Longshot: 9- Miner’s Escape (15to1)
(Im gonna assume Borel is not Mark Messier or Joe Namath)
